Here are some tips for using headphones and microphones to record your podcast episodes online.


Headphones

  1. Headphones are preferred over Speakers because they prevent Echo & Volume Ducking, recording higher quality audio.

  2. Wired headphones are preferred over Bluetooth because they are zero latency & will not disconnect or die from battery loss.

Microphone Technique

  1. Place your microphone roughly a fist distance from your mouth

  2. Speak across the top of the microphone

  3. Consider including a pop filter or foam windscreen to reduce plosives

Operating System (OS) Permissions

If you or your Guest goes to join a session, you’ve granted permissions, and still no equipment is available you likely need to grant permissions in your Operating System settings.

MacOS

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner

  2. Select System Preferences…

  3. Select Security & Privacy in the top row

  4. Select the Privacy tab near the top

  5. Select Microphone in the sidebar on the left

  6. Ensure Google Chrome is listed

  7. Ensure Google Chrome’s box is checked

  8. Refresh Alitu & double-check Chrome’s permissions by clicking on the grey lock icon to the left of the URL

Windows

  1. Click on the Start menu in the bottom left corner

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Privacy

  4. Select Microphone

  5. Select On next to Allow apps to access Your microphone

  6. Select On next to Google Chrome under Choose which apps can access your microphone

  7. Refresh Alitu & double-check Chrome’s permissions by clicking on the grey lock icon to the left of the URL
