How to Create Social Clips

Create short audio or video clips from an exported episode to promote it on social media.

Social Clips lets you create short audio or video clips from an episode, ready to download and share on social media.

Social Clips is currently marked as Beta in Alitu. If you have any problems or feedback, please let us know through the chat box.

Each social clip can be up to 2 minutes long.

Create Social Clips

  1. Open your finished episode and go to the publish page.

  2. In the Download box, click Social clips.

Choose the part of the episode you want to use

  1. Enter a name in Clip Name.

  2. Under Choose clip, drag the purple selector on the waveform to choose the start and end of your clip.

  3. If your episode has a transcript, you can use the search box to find parts of your podcast you want to promote. You can also click a word to jump to that point, or drag over transcript words to set the clip range.

  4. Click Preview to listen to the selected section.

  5. When you’re happy with the selection, click Next.

Create an audio clip

Choose this option if you want a short audio clip.

  1. Under Clip type, choose Audio clip.

  2. Use the preview player to check the clip.

  3. Click Generate audio clip to create the downloadable file. You can also click Save draft if you want to come back to it later.

Create a video clip

Choose this option if you want a short video clip for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, or Facebook.

  1. Under Clip type, choose Video clip.

  2. Choose a Video shape: Portrait, Square, or Landscape.

  3. Choose a Template: Video, Text, or Waveform.

    • Video uses the generated video version of your episode. You’ll need to generate the full episode video first.

    • Text creates a caption-style clip from your transcript. You’ll need a generated transcript first.

    • Waveform creates a visual clip with a moving waveform. You can use episode artwork, show artwork, a custom image, no image, and optional text.

  4. Use the settings on the right to change the image, background colour, waveform colour, text size, text colour, captions, or video crop, depending on the template you chose.

  5. Check the preview, then click Generate video clip. You can also click Save draft if you want to come back to it later.

Download or edit a social clip

After you generate a clip, Alitu will return you to the Social Clips page.

When the clip is ready, you can:

  • click the play button to preview it

  • click Download to save it to your computer

  • click Edit to change it and generate it again

  • use the duplicate icon to make a copy

  • use the pencil icon beside the name to rename it

  • use the trash icon to delete it

If you edit the episode later

Social clips are created from the current exported version of the episode. If you go back and change the episode after creating clips, you may need to generate those social clips again before downloading them.
