How to Add Chapters to your Episodes

Learn how to add chapters (timestamps) to your episodes so listeners can easily navigate to specific sections.

Updated over a week ago

Podcast chapters are timestamps that let listeners skip to specific parts of an episode. They’re a great way to clearly show your listeners what you’re discussing in your episodes, including the timestamp and duration of each topic covered. Chapters are useful for helping listeners jump to the topics that interest them most.

How to add chapters

From the Publish page you can generate chapters automatically or add them manually by clicking '+ Add first chapter'

When you click 'Generate chapters', Alitu transcribes your episode and adds chapters automatically. It takes a few minutes, depending on your episode’s length. The chapters have a title, timestamp and a corresponding marker in the audio player:

If preferred, chapters can be added manually by clicking "Add first chapter" and entering a timestamp and title. Additional chapters are added by clicking "+Add Chapter." To set the chapter position, click directly on the audio timeline where you want to add it before clicking "Add Chapter," or you can add the timestamp manually.

How to edit and remove chapters

You can edit the title and timestamp by clicking on them, and delete a chapter by clicking the trashcan icon:

When you are finished, click 'Save Changes'

That's it! Once you’ve added chapters in Alitu, they’ll automatically work in podcast listening apps. This is how they'll appear in Apple Podcasts:
